Long before states existed. Long before borders existed. Long before there were maps.
Small human groups moved through the territories we now call Coahuila, Nuevo León, Tamaulipas and South Texas.
Their history traveled with them. It lived in memory. In stories. In people.
Today, we know them as the Coahuiltecans.
We left northern Mexico behind.
We brought our tools. Our drawings. Our paintings. Our memories.
And we arrived in San Miguel de Allende.
When the time came to name this gallery, we thought of those ancient travelers.
Perhaps because we, too, had begun our own journey. We had changed cities, built a new life and learned to look at a different landscape.
Yet something remained intact.
Family. Craft. The need to create.
Galería Coahuilteca was born from that experience. From understanding that one can travel great distances and still preserve what gives them identity.
Because memory also travels. And some stories find new ways to keep being told.
